The Christmas bells are ringing, can you hear them? All the best Christmas movies are playing, the stores are gearing up for the shoppers, and the weather outside is beginning to show signs of winter. Yet, somehow, we often miss something wonderful during this season.
In Charles Dickens, A Christmas Coral, we see an illustration of how I perceive many of us to miss the Big Picture of Christmas. Charles rights, “A merry Christmas, uncle! God save you!’ cried a cheerful voice. It was the voice of Scrooge’s nephew, who came upon him so quickly that this was the first intimation he had of his approach. ‘Bah!’ said Scrooge, ‘Humbug!’”
Is it possible to enter this season we celebrate with pompous cheer by forgetting that the Savior is born? Why, why do we shut down the government, close the schools, and take off work for the birth of a King if we aren’t going to acknowledge Him as King of kings? I marvel at the distance most of go to avoid the King! Can I challenge you to search the Scripture and the historical evidence to see that “God sent His Son, they call Him Jesus!” Please, don’t be a bystander this year; enter into a time of true celebration because a King is Born!
“For to us a child is born, to us a Son is given, and the government will be on His shoulders. And He will be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace.
Of the greatness of His government and peace there will be no end.
He will reign on David’s throne and over his kingdom, establishing and upholding it with justice and righteousness from that time on and forever. The zeal of the Lord Almighty will accomplish this.” Isaiah 9:6-7
