Jeremiah’s ministry took place in the context of nearly total apostasy. False prophets were everywhere; and the people of God kept inventing false gods to which they might bow the knee. The kings of Judah also outdid themselves in seeking affiliations with ungodly nations.
The implications are great for parents, pastors, and Christian leaders. A scarcity of godly people is always only one generation away. Those born into our homes are tiny renegades who will without exception move in a direction away from God UNLESS they are taught otherwise by PARENTS and TEACHERS. We have only a few years in which to shape the hearts and minds of these precious children. We must teach them the thousands of small kindnesses that make life in a fallen world tolerable, giving them a hope for tomorrow, as they learn to live for Jesus today.
“Go up and down the streets of Jerusalem, look around and consider, search through her squares. If you can find but one person who deals honestly and seeks the truth, I will forgive this city.” Jeremiah 5:1
